Vaccinations

Vaccination plays a crucial role in controlling and preventing infectious diseases in pets. It not only safeguards the health of individual pets but also contributes to protecting the overall well-being and health of the pet population. By ensuring that all pets are adequately vaccinated, we can reduce the spread of infectious diseases and create a safer environment for both animals and humans.

Puppies are ‘temporarily’ protected against many diseases by antibodies received through their mother’s milk. These maternal antibodies decline in the first few months of their lives, making them susceptible to disease. This is why a series of vaccinations are necessary in a puppy to protect them during this crucial transition period.

When it comes to puppies, they receive an initial course of vaccinations to provide them with essential protection against common diseases. This initial series of vaccines typically includes core vaccines that are recommended for all dogs, such as those against canine distemper, parvovirus, and infectious hepatitis. By vaccinating puppies, we help establish their immune system and provide them with immunity during their vulnerable early stages of life.

These initial vaccinations are not sufficient to provide lifelong immunity. To maintain adequate immunity and protection throughout life it is imperative that dogs receive annual vaccination boosters.

Book an appointment to talk to one of our vets about what vaccination types and schedules are required for your individual dogs needs. There are many factors which we take into consideration such as age, health status, lifestyle, and regional disease risks.
